Reviews
We dined here for dinner and ordered a couple of things to share. They had a deal where if you ordered over $40 you can get a peached ice tea for free. So we ordered the King Sized Donkatsu which came with sauce and rice, corn cheese to share and a Boneless fried chicken soon tofu combo.
The soontofu we ordered was the Kimchi soon-tofu. This was flavourful, however it had a little sweet element to it, it was not spicy as I was hoping it would be. The egg was very overcooked though, which is a downside of it. The sotbap was nice and had a crunchy layer too. As it came with the fried chicken, the chicken was coated nicely and was crispy, even with the soy garlic sauce.
The donkatsu was crunchy and it was huge, my partner enjoyed it.
This shop is located just outside The Glen shopping mall, parking is available at The Glen. Staff is friendly. The tofu is really silky, but firm enough to be picked up by a pair of chopsticks.
The cold buckwheat noodle is very refreshing.
The fried chicken is not as good as some other Korean restaurant specialises in fried chicken.
The food was good and I was hungry so I forgot to take photos of the excellent tofu stews. So I hope to be back soon to do some justice to the review. The stew sets we ordered came with another dish (grilles steak), side dishes and rice. The meal was highly satisfying for sure. The menu appears different from the Box Hill branch but my eyes might be playing tricks. Both branches are equally good so I would recommend DooBoo if you're after Korean cuisine.
Ordered the signature soon-tofu set which came with hot pot rice and four sides. There is instruction on how to enjoy the rice which involve scooping out the freshly cooked rice into the bowl and then pour hot water into the pot with the remaining crispy rice to turn it into rice porridge. The rice porridge has a clean and nice roast flavour which was a good palate cleanser for the rich savoury and spicy soup. The tofu that was cooked in the soup was smooth and flavoursome; very delicious and hearty. There was also an egg with a runny yolk, some sliced pork, enoki mushrooms and a few clams. Wish there was more rice to go with the soup which I don't think there is free refill, however free refill is available for the side dishes (kimchi, seaweed, fishcake, beansprouts). Also had some boneless fried chicken and grilled beef steak to balance the meal with some protein; highlight was definitely the soon-tofu.
The soup was decent, good portion, personally, would like it spicier. Banchans were sufficient. The pancake can be improved, barely any seafood for a seafood pancake. …
Good sharing portions. Friendly staff. Very accomodating with food sensitivities (talk to them before ordering). …
Another branch of DooBoo has opened in the eastern side of Melbourne. Take a bit of walk out of the shopping centre to find this place, and it is located just next to a minimarket. …
one of the few restaurants in Melbourne that give you a good hospitality service, not sure whether He is the manager or the owner of the restaurant, He is just amazing person 🤩. This is so far the Best Samgye Tang (chicken ginseng soup) definitely will comeback for it 😅 …
